Moving Stuff Around
We often joke that farming is just another word for moving things around - we move animals and plants and eggs from one part of the farm to another part every day. This is especially true in the early spring when we move from winter into full growing mode in what feels like a split second. Last week we moved our very large summer chicken housing to a new pasture (right down the middle of Cookeville Road !), we moved thousands of baby veggie and flower plants from our heated propagation house to our unheated greenhouse for hardening off and then many of those same plants from the seed trays into the ground. This week we will move the chickens from their winter housing to the summer pasture, the pigs from their winter home and a whole lot more plants to where they need to be to fill the market with green goodness in the coming weeks. Our arms are full and we are certainly rolling for the 2024 Season!
The Cookeville Market will be stocked with baby lettuce and spinach, baby kale, mesclun mix, broccoli rabe, super sweet overwintered parsnips and beets. As always, we will be stocked with grocery staples, local milk, yogurt and cheeses, fresh goodies from Marilyn and a freezer full of our very own pastured meats.
We have some great plans for Mother's Day including a build your own bouquet activity for kids, pre-order bouquets for Mom, and a yummy list of pre-order pies from Marilyn. Details will be posted on our website later this week.
Open Wednesday Through Friday 8:30am till 6pm and Saturday 8:30 till 3pm.
