Grateful
We are harvesting our own tomatoes earlier than ever this year. This is partly because Cora and I tried a few new things to push the season up a bit but it’s also because of the incredibly warm season we have had so far. The season has also gotten wetter and last week, on the anniversary of the floods of last year, it happened again. Just 10 miles north of us. Some of the farms that were hit hard last year once again lost full crops and in some cases a full season of growing. It’s hard for Jonathan and I to even imagine how that must feel - to have to get up in the morning and move forward. But the farmers do - they are cleaning up and making plans to start again. We are awed by and grateful to them for their grit, their perseverance and their willingness to grow food for their communities - even in the face of such odds.
If you want to support farm impacted by flooding you can make a donation to the NOFA Farmer Emergency Fund. They helped so many farms last year and are at it again this year. To learn more go to: https://www.nofavt.org/farmer-emergency-fund
