Short Days and Long Nights
We made it through the SECOND power outage and hope you all did too. The days are so short this time of year - it’s a rough time to be in the dark.
We could list off all the projects and tasks that were left unfinished, delayed or made more difficult by the outages but instead we are celebrating that, despite the two back to back outages, we did manage finish our new winter laying hen house - a brand-new, cozy high tunnel greenhouse with loads of space and plenty of light for the 500 ladies that moved in yesterday. Big thanks to Clark, Cora, Sasha, Wendell and Birch who worked through some pretty nasty weather to pull it off.
We are taking pre-orders for Christmas goodies from both the farm kitchen and Marilyn's Kitchen - stolen, buche de noel, gingerbread, pies, lasagna, and more! Stop in and order this week!
This week the kitchen at our Cookeville Market will be serving up simple, warm and cozy meals - all made with our farm raised ingredients. Our "farm to take out" options include - Savory Hand Pies, Chicken Noodle Soup, Roasted Carrot Soup, Enchilada Style Delicata Squash and Pulled Pork with Carolina Slaw and Vermont Beans.
We are still harvesting from our greenhouses and are stocked with other winter favorites as well including celeriac, sweet potatoes, brussels, kale, spinach and baby lettuce.
Don’t forget that the market is also a great place to find local holiday gifts - including our new line of gift baskets - Maple Madness, Winter Wellness,, Vermont Cheeses and Hot Drink Lovers - all full of hand crafted local goodness!
We will be open regular hours (Wed/Thu/Fri 8;30-6 and Sat 8:30-3) through December 23. We will reopen for the winter season on January 17.
