Celebrating Chicken

Pastured Chicken was one of the very first products we sold as a farm. Our neighbor Melissa bought about half of the 25 or so that we raised. My brother-in -law ,Tom, who grew up on a chicken farm, taught us how to process them and we were tickled pink that we could raise and process our own meat.

We are now raising over 600 pastured broilers a year. They are not just delicious - they play key role in the regenerative management of our hay fields. The birds live on pasture and their mobile houses are moved twice daily.   This means they help build organic matter in the soil in these fields -which increases grass production, carbon sequestration and water retention in both excessively dry and wet years.

We have a few birds left for this week's Freezer Stocking Special - buy 5 or more of our freshly processed pastured chickens directly from the farm and get them for $5.00 a lb. Pick up day is this Wednesday August 7th after 4pm. Email Margaret to make a reservation.

Our Cookeville Market will be loaded with freshly harvested baby lettuce and kale, chard, broccoli, cabbages, cukes, zucchini,  green onions, beets , new potatoes, tomatoes, sweet red onions and Sweet Corn too!   As always, we will be stocked with our pastured eggs,  grocery staples, local milk, yogurt , ice cream, cheeses, fresh goodies from Marilyn and a freezer full of our very own pastured meats.

Open Wednesday Thru Friday 8:30am till 6pm and Saturday 8:30 till 3pm.

Pizza Night continues this Saturday at the farm with woodfired pizza with farm raised toppings, craft beer, cider, wine and meade, fresh salad and yummy seasonal desserts. Music this week is from The Pillsbury SLow Boys -  harp driven blues in the style of Little Walter and Sunny Boy Williamson,  as well as a variety of other material including selections from Cab Calloway, Big Joe Turner, some rockabilly and some classic rock that everyone should recognize.  Reservations Required - email info@crossmolinafarm.com or call the farm at 802-439-3358.
