Too Pretty To Eat!
Just when we all thought the summer warmth was never going to end (some of us being happy about this and some of us finding it creepy and tiresome), the pattern changed and fall is really here. Had to wear sweaters for chores yesterday and our hands were truly cold for the first time since early May.
New and notable this week as we move through the big fall harvests and make plans for winter is the gorgeous Purple Mountain Flint Corn pictured above - every ear is a little different and we are so awed by its beauty. We have sprays for your front doors and porches at the Market and will be trying a small batch of cornmeal once it dries. But maybe it’s too pretty to eat?
Our Cookeville Market is bursting with Autumn goodness - apples, brussel sprouts, pumpkins, freshly harvested baby lettuce, spinach, kale, chard, leeks, cabbages, carrots, beets, winter squash, celery, celeriac, fresh herbs, potatoes, garlic and onions. We will also have the very last of our own tomatoes and peppers.
As always, we will be stocked with our pastured eggs, grocery staples, local milk, yogurt , ice cream, cheeses, fresh goodies from Marilyn and a freezer full of our very own pastured meats.
Come to our fall minifest this Saturday morning starting at 10. We will be pressing fresh cider and serving up apple donuts and slices of our new general-store-worthy round of Cabot Cheddar. Pick up your carving pumpkin and your fall decor!
Looking ahead - we are now taking reservations for our Thanksgiving Turkeys. Our pastured birds are a delicious, juicy and beautiful centerpiece for your holiday feast! Reserve yours today. Stop by the market or go to crossmolinafarm.com
The Market is open Wednesday thru Friday 8:30am till 6pm and Saturday 8:30 till 3pm.
